Calling Over Crowd

What a time to be alive. What a world we live in. If someone told me in 2019 that in the year of 2020 – while I was obliviously plotting how to best utilize the phrase “2020 vision” – that I was going to have a near death experience while delivering my daughter, go through a global pandemic on top of witnessing some of the most brutal killings and protests I’ve ever seen, I would have said “the devil is a liar.”

Yet here I am, just like you, taking it all in. While in these times though, I wonder what our reactions are; amid financial crisis, social distancing, and global chaos, I wonder what stance we are taking.

Envision yourself following a running crowd, absent-minded as to the real reason why they’re even running. As you come to a halt, you ask the million-dollar question, “Why is everyone running?” only to realize that everyone is running simply because they saw someone else run. We get a kick out of watching those prank videos, without giving any thought to the fact that, if we are truly honest, that is us. We follow the crowd without ever even asking “Why?”

I am challenging you to stop for a moment, just stop running, and think “Where am I going, what is God calling me to do?” Not “What is the world expecting of me?” Not “What do I think I should be doing?” Not even “What seems politically correct to do?” but rather “What is my Creator calling me to
do?”

It’s interesting how far off we go onto both sides of the spectrum; we either jump all in without much thought or we think so much that we never jump. If you’ve never heard this, let me be the one to tell you: you don’t need to follow the crowd but you do need to step out in faith and do what God is calling you to do.
